Andreas Atkins, Electric Vehicles (EVs) Product Business Development Manager at Centrica Business Solutions, spoke to future Net Zero about why businesses should start looking at installing charge points, switching to electric fleets and how to start the process.
Andreas said “The most prominent forecasts are indicating that by 2029, so only eight years now, 20% to 30%, so a quarter, getting close to a third of all the vehicles on UK roads by this point will be electric and I think professional drivers, so fleets and taxis, will see this happen much sooner".
There is a range of obstacles businesses need to overcome, as well as opportunities to be realised when transitioning your businesses fleet to EV. And, despite many companies transitioning to electric vehicles for environmental reasons, there are also possible financial benefits. As businesses can boost their bottom line by opening up their electric chargers to the public or renting out car parking spaces.
Andreas said: "In the right frame, in the right kind of organisation, it can actually earn money from the investment in EV infrastructure.”
